The Prequel is an introduction to Method Writing—ideal for writers who feel something is blocked, forced, or missing in their writing, or who want to reconnect with why they started writing in the first place. The Prequel class gives you a new way to face the blank page.
In this class, you’ll practice writing like you talk, not the way you think a “writer” is supposed to sound. Through pressure-free, journal-style writing, there is no demand to produce a story or polished work. Instead, the focus is on showing up on the page sounding like you. As you let go of performance and expectations, you begin to reconnect with yourself—and your own deep, authentic voice starts to emerge.
Method Writing is rooted in writing that comes from the inside out. Whether your interest is fiction, memoir, poetry, or non-fiction, the Prequel helps you trust your instincts, quiet your inner editor, and discover a writing process that feels natural and sustainable. You’ll also be introduced to the core building blocks of strong narrative—action, dialogue, description, and commentary—in a way that supports your creativity rather than interrupts it.
My classes run like a Little Red Schoolhouse, with students at different levels learning side by side. On Wednesday evenings, writers in the Prequel, First Level, and Advanced Level classes work together—allowing new students to see what lies ahead while experienced writers reconnect with essential concepts. This shared environment is one of the things that makes the classes dynamic, generous, and alive.
Classes are hosted live on Zoom.
